Summer Fun

I have not found the time to regularly blog since we returned from this year's European adventure in mid July, my attempts at a routine have been interrupted by other obligations and spending time with the grandchildren ... and now here we are already celebrating/ embracing the last long weekend of Summer!

Tuesday five of the grandchildren will be going back to school and another one will be going to school for the first time on Wednesday.

The other two are still too young!

This past week, I tried to give some of the grandchildren one last blast of "Summer Fun" ...

... We hiked on the trails exploring hidden pathways along the stream in Participark and climbed the rugged hill into town

... We hiked the path and roads that circle the local lake.

... We spent many afternoons at the Water Park for some splish-splashing and Grandpa joined us.

... I gave them the tools ... paint, brushes, canvases and paper to be creative.

... We baked banana bread and corn muffins, and they all helped preparing the meals

... They made their own version of "DQ" sundaes ...from French vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, sprinkles, smarties, cookies'n'cream chocolate bar, homemade chocolate chip cookies

... We spent a "Buzy Bee" afternoon at the Clovermead Adventure Farm ... Riding go-carts, cooling off in the Mist Maze and zip lining plus much more!

Played in the sand piles ...

Wishing everyone a great weekend of "Summer Fun"!

I Am Saying a Little Prayer ...

Trying to find my motivation or should I say "time" to get back into my blogging routine.

There has been many upsetting events happening in the world over the past few weeks ...

Things that can make you feel like you are drowning when you read the newspapers, watch the television broadcasts and browse the internet ...

... some closer to home than one would personally like.

... some affecting dear friends and their families in St. Louis.

... some that make you question how you can truly help people who are suffering from many illnesses, both physically and mentally.

For a bit of respite I stopped reading the papers, stopped watching the news broadcasts and stopped browsing the internet ... I walked around the garden giving myself some time to reflect and I said a little prayer for some "sunshine and light" to be added to everyone's life...

May you feel warmth and love in your life just like these beautiful sunflowers with their smiling faces!

Hope you enjoy a bit of colour shared from my late summer garden...

Long Weekend in Canada

Today is a holiday for most Canadians ... It is called the "Civic Holiday" in most provinces but may also be known as something else.

My friend in France asked me what that was ... and honestly I didn't know the answer.

All I know is that when I was still employed this was one of a very few long weekends/ extra days added to a weekend ... to give me an extra break from work/ my career ... allowing me to spend extra time with family and friends.

It is a statutory holiday that always falls on the first Monday in August... depending in which province you live you may have the day off or you may not and also whom who work for?

This " long weekend " is especially important to me as it falls in the middle of the Summer months and yes summer only lasts so long in our part of the world.

When we lived in the "North" country at our "School house" ... this was always one of the those weekends for impromptu pot lucks with neighbours (permanent or weekenders) whom ever was around!

Fun and busy times ...

Saturday ... market shopping, supplies for the weekend ...

Sunday ... The Friendship Festival in Simcoe ( I think it is called something else now)

Monday ... A get together to celebrate my brother's visit ...

After this busy weekend ... my best friend (Monsieur Honey)  and I are having a quiet moment.

Watching the sunset ... from our courtyard and maybe we will be able to turn on the rope lights ...

Honey says "why are those hydro lines in your picture?".

I see pink in the sky ...

Ah ... A warm night with the lights on ...

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!
